Expectations and reality

Today I went out of town with my friend Yemima and Eva to a certain university to register for the new freshman admission. The trip took one hour, it was scorching hot when we arrived there. The building was huge, it has a modern design to it. We then went to the admission centre and filled out the registration form. Apparently, they’re having a discount for the forms, so I only had to pay 100k for two forms. The normal price would’ve been 200k each. I guess I’m pretty lucky.

We then went to the nearest mall from the university. The mall was built by the same group that also built the mall near my house. The one next to the university was way more bigger, though. It has so many stores and restaurants we didn’t get to explore it all in two hours.

My mom then texted me that my book had arrived. I rushed home and opened the package that my mom had put on the sofa. The book that I had ordered was Percy Jackson and The Greek Heroes by Rick Riordan. I actually bought that book because I was interested in the US version of the cover. So I ordered it online and had them ship to my house. But what arrived here was not the book with the US cover, but the UK one.

I was so disappointed at it. I’m mad but I couldn’t really get mad at anyone since I’m sure the store wouldn’t want to take the blame. I was so pissed off so I vented at my friend and my mom. Moreover, the books that I ordered had some parts of it’s cover torn a bit. Seriously, I’m so fed up with it.

I read somewhere in the internet that this book has some illustrations included inside. I was so excited to see those illustrations but I couldn’t find it ANYWHERE inside the book. Probably because it was a UK released one? WTF, seriously. I ordered a damned US version but they gave me a UK version with a torn cover.

I’ll never buy books from that store ever again. Screw you Periplus.

August 2015 : Week 3

Nothing important happened this week. Just a bunch of hectic schedules filled with tests and homeworks. We did have a celebration for Indonesia’s independence day last Wednesday, though. I guess the celebration was a really nice time to relax from school learning activities. We could actually participate in traditional games competition (I didn’t participate in any) and open up a stand for your own bazaar (I only bought several skewers of yakitori).

There’s not even a news regarding my physics test (which I screwed horribly) last week. Perhaps the teacher’ll distribute the results on Monday. I won’t hope much, though. I’m almost pretty sure that I’d fail at this horrible subject which I suck so much. (Cough, cough).

I’ve, more or less, made up my mind regarding which university and which major to take when I graduate next year. There’s a really big chance I’m taking IT. I won’t be going abroad, though, since my dad really doesn’t give me any preparations like IELTS test etc. I’ll probably just go to another university that’s a little bit far from home. I’d have to rent somewhere near …

I’ve also decided to take Programming as my extra curricular this year. Though it’ll only last for a semester since third year students need to prepare for graduation exams and crap. School had to cut off those “extra” time so that we could have more study sessions (and less sleep).

Homemade Hong Kong Waffles
Homemade Hong Kong Waffles

My mom ordered a Hong Kong Waffle Maker a few days ago and it arrived a day or two after. She immediately made three batches of those waffles. I got cheese, chocolate for my brother, and the original plain one for my mom. They tasted delicious!

We ate baby back ribs at a restaurant near our neighbourhood, Carnivor. The place was actually a mixture of steak restaurant and japanese ramen restaurant, Ikkudo Ichi. We had always ordered ramen when we go there, but this time I wanted a different taste. (I was honestly getting bored of ramen lol). So we ordered a full baby back and then split it into four. It was really delicious! We got mashed potatoes as the side dishes. The potatoes weren’t as good as Holy Cow’s, though. Carnivor’s potatoes were a bit rough. I guess they didn’t mash it thoroughly so they still have grains of hard potatoes, but it’s okay.

ReLIFE: Between looking back and moving forward

My most favorite web manga series, ReLIFE !

ReLIFE is a Japanese web manga created by Yayoi Sou and released weekly on comico. It is my absolute favorite web manga as it has a beautiful slice of life in it. When I say beautiful, I really do mean it is beautiful.

This manga teaches us lots of things through it’s main protagonist, Kaizaki Arata, a 27-year old man with a painful past who was later chosen as a ReLIFE experiment subject. He was scouted by Onoya An and supervised by Yoake Ryo. The subject who underwent the experiment will be rejuvenated 10 years and sent back to high school to experience youth once again with hopes of fixing things that were “wrong” with the subject’s life.

Kaizaki’s friends: Kariu Rena, Oga Kazuomi, Tamarai Honoka, Hishiro Chizuru

When Kaizaki was sent back to high school, he quickly made new friends and also encounter conflicts that were related to his past as a worker. Through each of those conflicts, Kaizaki helped his teenage friends with his experience that he had as a real adult. This made Kaizaki reflect on himself whether his past actions were truly a big mistake or not. He had always wondered if sticking his nose into someone’s problem to help a person was his biggest mistake that, in the end, led to his trauma.

Kaizaki later on finally realized that his actions were never a waste and that there were people who were always there supporting him. He was glad that he had made the right choice and was able to move forward a bit. His supervisor, Yoake, was also glad that his subject could move forward. In that way, Yoake felt that he could also move forward along with his subject, away from his past.

While it seemed that the main problem of Kaizaki’s past has been resolved a bit, I’m still curious on what lies ahead of the experiment. Since the test duration only took one year to complete, it means that Kaizaki will only have a few times left to spend his moments with his teenage friends. On the previous chapters, it was shown that he didn’t want to get attached to them because he feared one day they would never remember each other again. (All individuals that has a relationship with the subject will have their memories about the subject erased when the experiment ends.)

It seems that this manga has only a little bit more to go! (I really do hope it won’t end that fast, though). But even if the manga ends later on, I will still watch the anime that will be aired on 2016!

Highlights: Shokugeki no Soma

Ongoing Spring 2015 Anime, Shokugeki no Soma!
Ongoing Spring 2015 Anime, Shokugeki no Soma!

Shokugeki no Soma is a manga written by Tsukuda Yuuto and drawn by Saeki Shun. It was originally released as a one shot, but then got very popular, so it turned into a manga series in the end. About 130 chapters has been released for this ‘food wars’ manga. The anime adaptation was then released during Spring 2015 and it totally increased the popularity of the ongoing manga right now.

While SNS is not your typical shonen (it also has ecchi in it) anime and manga, it still appeals to all kinds of watchers and readers. J.C. Staff really made a good animation with this one. I totally love the art and characters that they brought!

Moreover, what most people look forward into this manga is … food!
SNS introduces you to wide varieties of creative and delicious food that Soma, the main protagonist, made. They were all made with normal graded ingredients when most of the other students in the anime used the high quality and expensive ones. The food that were represented in the anime also has it’s original real version!

I totally fell in love with the food! They all looked really delicious and it always makes me hungry! Cooking fans should really watch this anime (especially those who love food!). It has intense situations that is actually connected to real life, and badass characters who make heavenly foods like it was nothing! I’m really excited to see where will the anime end, perhaps the end of the Autumn Preliminaries? I don’t want to spoil the fun by reading the manga, so I guess I’ll just wait until the anime ends!

Summer Anime 2015

This season’s anime has gone halfway through! Though there may not be many that I found interesting, I still have several titles that always made me excited! There were also several that I dropped halfway because I just didn’t feel like continuing it … But let’s just focus on the ones I really love!

Aoharu x Kikanjuu

Aoharu x Kikanjuu Poster
Aoharu x Kikanjuu Poster

First off is Aoharu x Kikanjuu! The official english title on Wiki is Aoharu x Machinegun. This is absolutely my favourite series of this season. The story revolves around Tachibana Hotaru, who is a bonafide girl but was always mistaken as a man by others. She’s a character with a great sense of justice. Hotaru was then forced to join a survival game team, Toy Gun Gun, by Matsuoka Masamune (who didn’t know that Hotaru was a girl) after she accidentally destroyed his work place at the host club. There, she met Yukimura Tooru, Masamune’s childhood friend, who was a sniper in the team (and also an S&M manga artist).

The plot then moves pretty quick, and some of the boys’ past were revealed. It then triggered Tachibana’s will to keep staying in the team for the sake of helping Masamune take his revenge on a certain person, even though girls were actually not allowed.

It has a total of twelve episodes and it has reached episode 7 so far. I can’t wait to see the ending!

Akagami no Shirayukihime

Zen Wisteria & Shirayuki

Next is a round of romance! Akagami no Shirayukihime was originally a manga created by Akizuki Sorata. I read her manga a long time ago, but it has a slow update speed so I kinda dropped it after some time. When I heard that the anime was gonna air this summer, I immediately added this to my “Absolutely watch” list!

This anime has a nice clean art and pure romance. I love how the characters were depicted in the anime, and of course the prince is not the only thing that keeps me watching! I also love the side characters because they all had their interesting sides, especially Ryu, Shirayuki’s mentor.

Well, this anime basically has bijin inside it. A charming white haired prince, a brave red haired ‘princess’, cool bodyguards, and somehow a shyboy! Though I doubt it will catch up to the manga, I’ll still continue watching this anime to the very end.

Himouto! Umaru-chan

himouto
Chibi Umaru and her friends

This is the only anime which has no particular genre other than comedy and slice of life. But it’s really soothing and pleasant to watch! The main character is Doma Umaru, a beautiful, cute, and good-at-everything high school girl. She, however, switches into her otaku mode once she gets home and lazes all around her room. She tries to keep her secret of having an otaku life from her friends. The only one who knows Umaru’s double personality is Taihei, his older brother.

Even though this show is not as funny as Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, it’s still one of my favourites! (I really love Umaru’s cutesy o w o)

And that ends my top three favourites! I didn’t include Durarara this time because this second cour isn’t as exciting as I expected to be. Maybe I’ll continue watching it when the third cour comes out next year!

Alright, and a new list of anime that I’ll probably watch when fall comes:

Until then!

I’m XVII

I just turned seventeen four days ago at the 11th of August. 😀 My family celebrated it in the evening of that day by going out and eating together at Holy Cow! restaurant.

Then we ate several slices of cake that my mom bought the other day right after the dinner.

The cake tasted so bitter, nonetheless it was still delicious. Mom said she’s going to buy me another cake once I finished distributing the leftovers to my friends. 😛 I distributed them the next day. Some of my friends never realized that it was my birthday … Oh well.

Hello world!

I finally finished redesigning my blog! It took me days to get it done since I had so much homework and tests to prepare. Sigh. I couldn’t retrieve my old posts because the old database couldn’t be accessed. I guess I’ll just have to restart this blog from square one.

The theme I’m using was an old one that was used by Aozora. I modified it a bit so it looks bright and cleaner 🙂 I also made the favicon by myself. It’s an anime character called Umaru.

As for the blog name … I kinda threw away some Japanese names since it’s kind of mainstream and boring right now. (Oops). So I just randomly used google translate and got Somniatis, which means ‘dream’ in Latin, as my blog name. I’m really fond of it right now since it sounds unique! 😀

I’ll have to recreate some pages later on since they’re all not complete yet. I also plan to renew the emoticons when I have the time! Until then, please bear with this boring blog.
