Summer 2020 Anime Watch List

I’m really excited for this season’s anime since there are a lot of great titles waiting to be explored! Here are some that I’m really looking forward to watch!

The God of Highschool

Adapted from the super popular Korean webtoon created by Yongje Park. The story revolves around martial arts and supernatural powers. Although the story will go all over the place, the characters are interesting (see the featured image) and loveable. It’s definitely going to be a ride! Expecting a lot from MAPPA to execute the beautiful fighting scenes.

Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru S3

I’ve followed this anime since I was in high school and I really love the story telling and eccentric characters! I’m glad that a season 3 is finally adapted. It’s a romance story but not your typical romance. It explores personality and human interaction in a deeper level (if you can keep up with their high level dialogues). It’s always a challenge to watch this anime since you have to read behind what the characters are saying to understand their intention, but that’s why it’s so interesting!

Fire Force S2

Looking forward to this simply because I followed their first season. I didn’t catch up to the manga since I wanted to keep the excitement raw haha. For those who don’t know, Fire Force is set in a different era where spontaneous combustion is the #1 reason for death and the new generation of humans that can manipulate fire is born. Characters are trying to discover the real reason behind the phenomena and put an end to it. I definitely recommend it to those who love action and supernatural!

Fruits Basket S2

Not a new starting series, but continued. I was extremely happy when they announced that the second season will have 25 whole episodes. Can’t wait for the story to reach it’s peak!

Fugou Keiji

This series actually aired last season but stopped only after 2 episodes due to the outbreak spreading to Japan. It’s scheduled to resume this season and I can’t wait for more badass money spending and police action. The plot revolves around Daisuke Kambe, a millionaire who just became a ‘police’ by using his money. He handles incidents differently from what normal people would do since his money balance is basically unlimited. Haru, a fellow police, despises Kambe’s ways and tries to sort of compete with him. It’s a fun comedy and action packed series!

Great Pretender

Series created by Netflix. It’s unexpectedly GOOD, especially for people who love shows like Money Heist. It’s a pretty unique series as it revolves around a group of conmen and how they execute their fraud. The episodes are divided into arcs and dive deep into each main character’s past and explore the story to why and how they became conmen. The first 14 episodes have aired on Netflix and Japan television will broadcast all 23 episodes starting from the beginning of this month! Bonus: They used Freddie Mercury’s cover of ‘The Great Pretender’ as their ending song!

Ahiru no Sora

I wasn’t originally interested in this series since it’s basketball and the art’s kind of distinctive. I have this negative preconception that most sports anime aren’t realistic and have these supernatural powers lol. But I gave it a try because I was bored without having anything to watch while eating my meals. It turned out to be great! The pacing of the story is slow, but it really builds up the characters from zero and show their gradual growth. It’s not 100% sports too since it has romance, comedy, slice of life aspect that hits you hard in the feels.

Haikyuu S4 2nd Cour

Even though I read the manga and know the future development, I’m definitely still going to watch this continuation. Surprisingly, Haikyuu is the only sports anime that I keep watching over and over without getting sick of it. It’s one of the sports series I love not just for their action (the game), but also tremendous character growth and development. Even though this series have a lot of characters from different schools, the story sheds light on each one of them on how they grow, change, and improve. I obviously don’t have a child, but watching the growth really makes you proud of these fictional characters as if they’re your own child haha.

These are all the anime I have in my list right now! It’s unexpectedly a lot compared to my previous lists. It just shows how great the Summer 2020 anime line up is! Which series are you following?

Summer 2018 Anime Wrap-up

I haven’t posted about anime or manga for a long time because I didn’t have time to catch up during school days. But as I promised in my previous post, I’m going to share the series that I’ve followed for this season and what I’m looking forward to in the next season!

Steins;Gate 0

When the studio announced that they’d be adapting the second season for S;G, I was so hyped I couldn’t control my excitement. And now I’m still hyped even when this series is nearing its end because it was so intense and consuming. I find some episodes really devastating too, especially near the end. I can’t wait for the last three episodes to air. I hope it stays amazing until the end!

Gintama: Silver Soul Arc Pt. 2

I’ve been following Gintama since several years ago and these past few arcs are amazing and full of onion ninjas that you’d doubt if this was really a comedy anime. This arc is said to be the last so fans are excited but upset at the same time that this masterpiece would end soon. Gintama might not be as popular as other shonen animes like Naruto or One Piece but I still favor this series compared to the other famous titles.

Muhyo to Rouji no Mahouritsu Soudan Jimusho

Or in English, Muhyo & Roji’s Bureau of Supernatural Investigation. Long title, yes. I gave this series a try because I liked the anime poster lol. It looked interesting and the PV gave off a Detective Conan vibe. Maybe partly because of the title. It was an okay anime and it’s more like a slice of life mixed with detective and supernaturals to me rather than action. Is it because I watch supernatural genres too much? Haha.

Banana Fish

I saw the announcement for Banana Fish, got interested, read the manga, cried a lot, and then got excited for the series to finally air but eventually decided to postpone watching it until all 24 episodes are aired. I’ve watched the first several episodes of this series and I must say the studio did a great job in adapting from the manga. The opening and ending songs are beautiful too. This series may look like a normal gangster anime but it’s so much more than that. It’s deeper and darker than what it looks. Some people dislike this series because they labeled this anime as BL and got scared of it. True, it might give off some BL vibes, but I personally don’t have problems with it. I mean, it’s not a real BL, it’s just the vibes and it’s not even that extreme. The story’s really beautifully written and if someone’s gonna skip it because of that then it’s just their loss.

Hataraku Saibou

A.k.a Cells at Work in English. This is like the most adorable anime made about how human cells work in our body, their roles, and their relations. The character designs are really well made and the story is educational. I bet this series will teach you more about biology than what you would learn in school. It’s a really entertaining series and I recommend it to almost everyone.

Fall 2018 Anime

I don’t know if I’ll pick up anime from this season as I’d probably be empty after Gintama ends and I’ll also revert to being buried by schoolwork once classes start. From the list of animes, I think only Tsurune caught my interest. I guess I’ll just have to wait until everything airs and see which one looks promising haha. You can check animes airing per season here.

Until then!

May 2018: Eh …

I encountered a lot of problems this month to the point it is normal to have a problem right now. Japanese groupwork was hectic, other classes demanded a lot of essays to be submitted, and one class had poster presentations. I kinda screwed up my Japanese midterms… I can’t even think of other classes’ exams.

There aren’t any achievements for this month. I’ve been making rough translations/summaries for a web manga series that I’m following currently. The active translator was somewhat busy so it didn’t get updated for quite a long time. So I thought I’d just read the raws and share what I understand with the others on Tumblr. There wasn’t anyone who responded at first, but now a lot of people are asking me to update! It takes a bit of effort to translate but it’s worth it and I feel happy when someone said they’re grateful for my summaries!

Anyways, I went to see Deadpool 2 several days ago and damn I’m so happy I decided to watch it. The movie was hilarious and the soundtracks are just beautiful. I especially loved Ashes and the acoustic version of Take On Me. 10/10 would rewatch if I had the time (and money).

Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii

For anime, I was planning to watch Boku no Hero Academia S3 and Steins;Gate 0 but I told myself to just wait till the series end so I can marathon them on one go. So for now, the only series I’m watching is Wotakoi. It reminds me a lot of Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun because it has the comedy and romance element. It’s quite entertaining so far and I’m planning to read the manga once the anime ends. Oh, and the opening for this is quite addicting as well!

That’s it for now!

April 2018: Achievements, Favorites, Wishlists

I’m always sorry for my absence and for neglecting my blog like this. I haven’t been able to get into the mood of blogging again these days. Maybe because nothing eventful happens these days? Haha. The polaroid picture above was taken by me during the sakura season. (I finally got the chance to use my camera!) The riverbank that my friend discovered was beautiful and the ground was covered with sakura petals. We did hanami there and it was really great! Anyways, let’s get straight to the post.

Achievements

I applied for another scholarship this year and I got nominated for Oita Prefecture’s scholarship! The amount of money I get is lower than JASSO’s but I’m still grateful that I’ve earned another opportunity to receive a scholarship. Receiving this scholarship means that you have to participate in all of the programs that the Oita government conducts (it’s kind of a pain, yes). People say it’ll be very time consuming but who knows I can gain experiences? Haha.

Favorites

Violet Evergarden would be my favorite anime that just ended this early April. It’s a beautiful work of art done by Kyo Ani. I’m pretty sure almost everyone knows about this series since it’s really popular. I love all the songs starting from the opening, ending, and the OSTs in the anime. Recommended for people who love melodrama.

This spring, I’m following My Hero Academia and Steins;Gate 0. I’m especially hyped for Steins;Gate since I really loved the first series, so I’m really excited when they announced the second season of it!

Now onto the things I bought and loved …

Logicool G213 Prodigy RGB Gaming Keyboard (Logicool is Logitech in Japan.)

A freaking gaming keyboard. I never thought I’d needed one until I got one. Recently my gaming friends invited me to play another online game together and of course, I said yes. However, spending hours playing that game made my hand sore to the point it started to hurt to flick my wrist. I don’t know if Amazon had stalking abilities but a recommendation for gaming keyboard appeared when I was browsing. The features were cool and it was on a half-price discount. I jumped on the offer and now my wrist is happy! 🙂 It’s also super comfortable when I have to type my essays for a long period of time.

The next thing would be another tote bag (yes, I have too many bags, I know) from Baggu.

Denim Duck Bag from Baggu

Another shot of the bag

I first discovered the brand while I was browsing through the Google stories cards (all the online advertisements, I swear). I fell in love with the simplistic design and color in an instant and I was delighted when I figured out they also sell it in Japan. To be honest, for a tote bag, the price ain’t cheap, however, I haven’t regretted purchasing that bag until now since it’s so versatile and comfortable to use. The straps don’t leave a sharp stinging pain on my shoulders either, so that’s a plus.

Wishlist

Time for the random things I saw online but couldn’t get my hands on because of money problems …

Small Drawer Pouch: Peacocks of Grantham Hall

Hobonichi released a series of new accessories for Spring 2018, the Drawer Pouches. They’re designed to fit the things you have in your drawer from stationaries, makeup, etc. They have two sizes, small and large, and each size has 8 designs (4 of them has gone out of stock and won’t be restocked anymore.)

Interior of the peacock pouch

Peacocks of Grantham Hall is the first design that caught my eye since I saw the design being used for last year’s week’s cover. It’s super elegant and the tassel is just so extra. The interior colors are really nice as well.

Black Large Drawer Pouch

This is the larger version of the pouch and it can fit A5 papers. It has a lot of slots for credit cards, a mesh slot and a huge zipper in the middle to divide your things. The price of this black one is 1000 yen more compared to the small peacock pouch. Why do beautiful things have to be so expensive …

The last item is from Muji! (I have too many things that I want.)

Phone inside the case

The case itself

This is probably the most random thing I’ve found while browsing through Muji’s website: a splashproof phone case. It allows you to use your phone while you’re cooking or bathing without having to risk your phone’s safety. It’s not that expensive either so I thought I’d get this the next time I visit Muji.

That’s it for the post! Sorry if it’s long and image heavy and basically filled with random things but I hope it somewhat entertains you. Haha. I will post more when I get the chance to, so until then!

Highlight: Koe no Katachi

Warning: This post contains spoilers. Please read at your own risk.

Ah, I’ve been wanting to watch this movie ever since they released it last year! Now that I’ve got the chance to, and watched it, I truly feel that movie is a masterpiece of its own. I fell in love with the story, characters, music, development and the beautiful ending. Basically, everything in the movie was really well done. Of course, the movie’s not perfect, it has its own flaws, but it still left a great impression (and feels)!

Koe no Katachi is a very powerful movie about redemption, regrets, friendship, and family. It revolves around the two main characters, Ishida Shouya, who was once a bully, and Nishimiya Shoko, the one being bullied because of her inability to hear.

Ishida closing himself from the rest of the world

When Ishida started to bully Nishimiya, everyone in the class joined in, including his closest friends. But in the end, Ishida became the scapegoat of his friends when Nishimiya’s mother reported to the teacher about the possibility of her daughter being bullied at school. As a result, he became the bullied and was cast out by all of his friends, leading to his depression and him wanting to commit suicide in the very first few scenes of the movie.

Ishida’s suicide attempt was then found out by his mom and she made him promise not to commit suicide every again (by threatening him that she would burn all the money he has gathered for her) and try to live his life better. Ishida promised, but he continued living by not properly seeing and hearing what is around him because he wanted to shut himself inside. This is illustrated in the movie with all the X on the people’s faces around him.

Meeting with Nishimiya again

Ishida started to see Nishimiya again because of what he did before he tried committing suicide. He had returned Nishimiya’s old notebook (which was used for communication, as Nishimiya can’t speak properly) as a last ‘deed’ and actually didn’t expect to see her again after. However, after those events, Ishida and Nishimiya started seeing each other more. Ishida now uses sign language to communicate with Nishimiya.

The story progresses and brings all of his old friends together again. Ishida also gained a new faithful buddy, Nagatsuka, along the way by rescuing him from a bicycle thief. (Chubby cute friend, I must say.) He also got to know Nishimiya’s younger sister, Yuzuru, (mistaken as Nishimiya’s boyfriend by Ishida at first) who does her best every day to support her sister.

Nagatsuka and Yuzuru

At this point, Ishida thought he was doing fine with this life of redemption. However, the X labels that had fallen off came back because his old friends brought back the past he wanted to forget about. Kawai, Ishida’s elementary school friend (who is actually not cute at all), started to spread rumors again about Ishida’s past which led him to take a tremendous action to shut everyone out once again. What Ishida didn’t know was that his actions made Nishimiya think that Ishida’s suffering was all her fault, leading her to blame herself for everything that Ishida had experienced.

Nishimiya and the fireworks

I think this part of the movie made Ishida and all the viewers of this movie freak out. Ishida and Nishimiya’s little family went out to watch the fireworks display, but when her sister and mother was gone, Nishimiya told Ishida that she wanted to go home suddenly. Ishida was confused but since Nishimiya insisted, he couldn’t do anything and was only able to say ‘see you later’. Nishimiya usually responds with ‘see you later’ as well, but this time, she didn’t.

Yes, because she tried to do the same thing as what Ishida tried to do at the beginning of the movie.

Ishida soon came back to Nishimiya’s house because Yuzuru told him to get her camera. He expected to see Nishimiya at home but the house was dark. He soon saw Nishimiya’s figure standing on the balcony and Ishida panicked so much when he started seeing her climbing the railings to the point he shouted out Nishimiya’s first name, Shoko, for the very first time.

Nishimiya didn’t fall because of Ishida’s help, but Ishida fell because his body shifted forwards when he tried to pull Nishimiya from the balcony, resulting him to fall into the river. Ishida survived because his friends from elementary school helped to pull him out. He was hospitalized after that event but soon regained consciousness and welcomed back by his friends and family.

Ishida opening himself to the rest of the world

After all that he went through, Ishida realized that he had never apologized to Shoko and all of his friends yet. So he did. By doing so, Ishida was finally able to drop all the X on people faces and look at everyone directly in the eye. The background song that was played in this scene also got a little louder as Ishida moved his hands away from covering his ears, showing that he is finally able to forgive himself.

Winter 2016/2017 Anime

Most of the anime for this season is a continuation for leftovers and second seasons. There were several new original ones that caught my eye as well. But most of all, I’m most excited for the continuation of my old favorite anime, Ao no Exorcist.

Ao no Exorcist: Kyoto Fujouou-hen

Promotional wallpaper from the official website.

The opening song, “Itteki no Eikyou (一滴の影響)” by UVERworld is simply addicting. I just love UVERworld songs! 😆 The ending song, “Kono Te de (コノ手デ)” by Rin Akatsuki is just beautiful and it really depicted all the main characters of the story. I hope the full version of these songs get released soon!

ACCA 13-ku Kansatsu-ka

love anime about organizations with spies and secrets and all those intelligent plots, and ACCA is the one for this season! If you love titles such as Psycho-pass, Baccano! and Joker Game, this might be the right series for you. The story follows Jean Otus who works in an inspection agency for the kingdom and was secretly being spied on by his higher-ups who suspect Jean for planning a coup d’état.

I fell in love with the opening song of this anime. “Shadow and Truth” by ONE III NOTES is really catchy and I can’t stop listening to it once I do. 😆

Other titles that I might watch

That’s it for this season’s watch list! I know there isn’t much but at least those were the anime that I was really looking forward to and met my expectations!

Highlight: 3-Gatsu no Lion

This is a post featuring this season’s newly released anime 3月のライオン (3-Gatsu no Lion) ! A story about life and how someone turns his life around from the current situation. For you who loves slice of life and a bit of drama and tragedy, be sure to check this manga/anime out!

Kirikawa Rei
Kiriyama Rei

3-Gatsu no Lion is a manga written and drawn by Umino Chica. The anime adaptation is being aired this Fall 2016 and produced by Shaft. So for you guys who are familiar with Shaft’s animation, you can expect to see several head tilt animations inside.

Simply put, the story is about a 17 years old boy named Kiriyama Rei who’s currently a 4th dan shogi player. He lives alone, financed by his salaries as a professional player. However, in the story’s progress Rei discovers that he’s yet to mature, still stuck with his old self as a boy with a tragic past.

3月のライオンVol. 3

This story is a really heart warming one and a sad one in the same time. Both the main and side characters all had their own complicated situations and back story. Though the plot may seem simple, the way the author narrates this story left a deep impression in me. I could somewhat relate to the situations that each of the characters are in. I even started to think that they exist (the feels!). Reading the manga ahead, I discovered that this story sucks me inside and it’s hard for me to put my phone down after reading it continuously. It keeps making you curious about what is going to happen after the end of the chapter.

The flow and the pace of the story was nicely controlled. The author seriously knows when to put a cheery moment and when to make you experience a ton of different feelings in a chapter! I love the series for that reason! I will probably purchase the manga if I spot it somewhere in the local bookstores nearby where I’m living now. Until then, I’ll just have to save more money for it!

So if you feel interested in this series, do give it a try!

Makeover

I finally updated the theme a bit. It’s been awhile since I’ve retouched my blog’s appearance ever since I got my hands on Hobonichi. I started filling my daily journal more often than I could maintain regular posts on this blog. Sometime along the way I even forgot that this blog existed at all. 😥  I guess I won’t call myself a blogger anymore right now, but perhaps I would continue this blogging activity closer in the future once my university life starts. I won’t have time to fill and decorate my journal wonderfully everyday after all. Ah, life. (I feel so old now.)

For these past few weeks I’ve been buying things that I’ll bring for my trip to Japan this coming September. There are quite a lot of things that I need to purchase that I’m afraid everything won’t fit into my luggage. I’ve bought several warm clothing, bath stuff, a bolster (seriously why are they so rare abroad), and other necessary medicines since I get sick pretty easily. 🙄 The university will have another meeting for us students to discuss more about what needs to be done before arriving in Japan so until then I guess I’ll just have to hold my shopping activity.

Nike and Livius

Anyways, I’ve also been catching up watching a lot of anime recently. Most of it are shoujo genre, though. I finished Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii yesterday and I must say it’s a really good anime (adapted from manga). I really love their insert song which Nike (the female protagonist) sings. I’m also watching the first season of Spice and Wolf. It’s not as bad as I thought as well even though it may look boring for the first few episodes. Now I’m just wanting to watch and know more about the characters!

As for this year’s birthday (which I celebrated 3 days ago), nothing much happened. Lol. Mom and Dad wished me a happy birthday. Dad only sent an edited image with a text ‘Happy Birthday Katherine’ and sent it to me through Whatsapp, though. I guess he’s just busy. My aunts sent texts through Line. Lastly several high school friends who happened to remember also sent wishes from Line. Haha. I do wish I could’ve actually gotten something for my b’day, though … Oh well.

That will be all for this update post, I think. 🙂

Summer 2016 Watch List

I know this post is a little bit late to write about, but in order to just fill up my blog keep my blog going I decided that this kind of post wouldn’t be so bad. This season has several nice titles whereas most of them are being adapted from manga. There’s also an original release from the studios which I find quite interesting as well.

ReLIFE

relife
Image from ReLIFE’s official website.

Yes, you may have read a post about this manga series that I wrote last year. I’m so happy it was finally released as an anime this summer with complete 13 episodes in one go! I especially loved the way the anime was being carried without missing the important events from the manga. The opening song, Button, was sung by Penguin Research. I really liked this series as an anime as well! I hope there’s another season for this as lots of people are demanding it too.

Orange

Orange is mostly about great friendship and romance with a bit of sci-fi element working inside the plot.  This title was adapted from a manga series by Ichigo Takano. I really loved the manga so I was really excited to see how they planned to carry out the anime. I think it’s so far so good! This anime reminds me of Re:Zero and Boku Dake ga Inai Machi due to the presence of the time twist feature, but that’s what got me hooked!

91 Days

This is a great difference in genre from the two titles I’ve mentioned so far. 91 Days is all about revenge and mafia. It’s an anime original so there’s no spoiler. From what I’ve watched so far, I think the anime’s going to have some twisted plot that will be executed in the coming episodes. TK from Ling Tosite Sigure will sing the opening for this series! (Oh my god I love their songs.)

D.Gray-man Hallow

THEY DON’T KNOW HOW LONG I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS! After 8249302 years of not knowing the continuation of the first season (because I hate reading the manga for some reason), finally they released the continuation of D.Gray Man this year! (Insert happy tears.) Sadly, this season will only have 13 episodes in total … Oh well, it’s better than nothing at all! I’m looking forward to what will happen to Allen Walker and their crew! 😆

Considering to watch: Handa-kun, DAYS (TV), Shokugeki no Souma: Ni no Sara (I know everyone’s hyped but I’ve read the manga so … hype lost.)

Still watching: Re:Zero. (Come on, Subaru, you look so pathetic.)

//edit: Fukigen na Mononokean is surprisingly good!

Spring 2016 Watch List

There are several promising series for this spring! These are several titles that caught my interest. I’ve also watched the first episodes for each anime and I think they’re quite promising. Most of the titles mentioned here has a manga serialised, so do check it out if you’re interested! (Beware of spoilers, though). So here goes the list!

Bungou Stray Dogs

Bungo-Stray-Dogs-2
I’m immediately interested with this anime when I saw the synopsis. So I decided to check the manga out before it aired lol. The story and plot was really entertaining and the characters were quite unique since they were named after famous Japanese novel writers! Bungou Stray Dogs has my favorite genre tags: mystery and supernatural, which is why I definitely fell in love with the series in an instant. Oh, and this anime comes in two cours which will be continued in October 2016 once the first season ends. Yay! (More info)

Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge

Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge
Finally, a slice of life anime! I’m glad there’s an additional anime of this genre in my list after Nijiiro Days (ongoing). The story centres around Tanaka, the laziest protagonist I’ve ever seen so far. I think he’s far more lazier than Oreki from Hyouka. I’ve watched the PV and it really gives off a relaxing sensation when I watched it. (More info)

Sousei no Onmyouji

sousei
I really love stories that has exorcism in it! It’s been awhile since I stumbled upon a story that involves this element since Kyoukai no Rinne, Nurarihyon and Ao no Exorcist. I’ve read the manga before I knew it’s gonna be serialised, so I could follow it just for killing time or might just drop it if I feel bored. Nonetheless, the manga’s plot is pretty good so I hope the anime adaptation doesn’t stray too far from it. (More info)

Mayoiga

Mayoiga-Anime
This is the last anime in my season’s watch list. It’s about a group of people going to a lost village to turn a new leaf for their own lives. This anime is full of mystery and things that may look really absurd and strange at the first place but I hope some things will come to light later on as the story progresses. (More info)

So yeah that’s it! There’s actually several more series that I’d consider watching but with a little less interest since I’ve followed the for awhile now such as Boku no Hero Academia, but I thought that I’ve read too far so basically I’ll know pretty much what’ll happen in the anime. This is different from Sousei no Onmyouji because the manga is rarely updated so I could still look forward to the anime in case they surpass the manga’s story line.
