Minimal Skincare 2020

I haven’t updated my skincare items for a while, so here I am introducing some old and new items in my routine!

Sioris Milk Cleanser (left) and Klavuu’s Cleansing Oil (right)

I ran out of my old balm cleansers (previously used E Nature and Heimish). So I decided to give some new brands a try.

I originally thought Sioris’ milk cleanser was a second cleanser. But after reading the description and using it, I realized it’s more of first step cleanser where it cleans your make up and grimes haha (it doesn’t foam at all). It actually works as a 2 in 1 cleanser if you don’t use any makeup.

If I were to choose between these two cleansers for makeup cleansing, I would pick Klavuu’s Divine Pearl Cleansing Oil. The consistency is really light and it easily glides over the skin. And it doesn’t make ur skin dry! This oil cleanser made me deviate away from balm cleansers completely.

Laneige Cream Skin Refiner (left) and Canmake Mermaid Skingel UV (right)

For summer, I don’t really use a lot of products as I like to keep it simple. Laneige’s Cream Skin is an all-time favorite and it’s really useful for all seasons. For summer, one or two layers of application is enough and I just seal it up with my trusty Canmake sunscreen. To be honest, I haven’t found any products that top up the hydrating ability of the Cream Skin. I understand why it’s so revolutionary and loved because you can really feel your skin getting hydrated upon application.

Melano CC and Wishtrend’s Mandelic Acid

Of course, we can’t forget the supplementary products. Melano CC has never failed to get rid of my over-pigmentation from acne. It’s honestly an omnipotent product that will always have a spot on my skincare shelf.

Previously, I’ve been using COSRX’s AHA chemical exfoliator and I decided to try out the Mandelic Acid as it’s gentler. It does’t irritate my skin as much and has been working great to get rid of dead skin cells.

This ends the introduction of my minimized regime. If you notice, I didn’t mention anything about foaming cleansers. That is because I can’t really find the ONE face cleanser that I love, yet. I will surely update the post when I discover one!

Current skincare favorites

It might look like I bought a lot of products and threw my money off the window, but rest assured, most of them are cheap samples that I bought to test out lol.

Let’s jump straight into the contents!

The popular Laneige cream skin toner

People were raving about this toner for the longest time and I had to get my hands on them to try it out. Luckily, they had a mini version so I opted for that since I’m not sure if this will break out my skin or not. I bought mines from Yesstyle.

So far testing it, my skin has not reacted badly, and I must say that this product really lives up to its expectations! The consistency is really watery, but it feels very nourishing and hydrating on the skin. This product will be perfect for spring/fall/winter time since it adds extra hydration. I have yet to try this during summer so I will add more contents when that time comes.

Pony Effect’s Everlasting Cushion Foundation

I always see people reviewing Pony Effect’s products on Youtube but I never got to try one myself since the website I usually shop at doesn’t carry my shade and I’ve always perceived the price tag as being super expensive.

One day I browsed through Yesstyle and realized that they don’t have shade #03 as well. 😦 My current cushion was also running out at that time so I thought, why not just give it a try? There was only Nude Beige (#02) left in stock, so I tried that. Only then I realized that the price tag was high since it came with an extra refill! When the product came, I tried it out immediately, and surprisingly, it fit my skin tone! The finish was also really smooth with medium coverage and the longevity was quite good since I didn’t need to touch up until 6 hours later. Overall impressed! Will definitely repurchase this one.

Clio Kill Cover Glow Cushion in #4 Ginger

You can tell from the image that I didn’t really use this cushion since it has accumulated dust lol. I bought this before I discovered the Pony Effect cushion because the ‘glow’ trend was really big back then. However, I realized that I could only use this in winter since it’s super dewy and oily even during spring! My makeup would look so disgusting after several hours and it just offed me from using it ever again.

It’s quite unfortunate, but I guess I just need to wait for winter to come and see how it goes.

Rose skincare from Aromatica

Back to skincare. To be honest … I don’t even know why I purchased these things lol. There was a 40% discount for skincare that contains rose ingredients and these products from Aromatica was on sale because of that. Now, I’ve mentioned before that I’m a sucker for discount sales, so… Yeah… You get it. Moreover, I checked reviews for these two products and most people gave them high ratings. However, I haven’t given them a try yet since I’m trying to finish up my Innisfree Green Tea Seed Serum and Pyunkang Yul toner lol. That aside, the packaging is glass! I’m sold.

That’s it for my random skincare and makeup post! Hope you enjoy the randomness as well lol.

Spring/Summer Skincare Favorites Update

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted about skincare and makeup. I’ve been switching from one product to another to find the one that complements my skin fully. Since it’s transitioning to summer now, I had to change my moisturizers as my previous ones are not just makes my skin feel so greasy. 😥

Cleanser: I’m still using my COSRX Good Morning Low PH Cleanser. I think it suits most skin types as this one doesn’t leave your skin feeling super squeaky clean (which is usually bad), but still leaves a refreshing and clean sensation. Doesn’t dry me out either!

Oil cleanser: My current oil cleanser is the Heimsh All Clean Balm. I think I like this one better than the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil that I once used because the application is easier and less messy. This one cleans thoroughly as well and is easier to bring around when traveling.

Toner: I’m trying out Klairs Supple Preparation Toner ever since my old Beauty Water expired lol. To be honest, I can’t tell if my skins improve by incorporating this toner into my routine. At first, I was a bit worried because it contains essential oils, but so far it didn’t break me out so I guess it’s good?

Essence: Usually cream moisturizers don’t suit me as I’m a bit of combination type. This time I’m trying out Huxley’s Oil Essence. It’s a best selling product and I’m pretty sure most skincare addicts know what this product is. It has a grass-like fragrance. It might smell strange but I actually got used to the smell after several uses. It actually makes my skin feel super moisturized (but not overly) throughout the day! My sebum production is undeniably lesser when I use this essence. Definitely my new holy grail!

Sunscreen: I’m still on my eternal journey in searching the perfect sunscreen. I used Biore’s Watery Essence previously and switched to Apieu’s Madecassoside Sun Cream through a recommendation on a Youtube video (yes, I’m a viral marketing victim). It’s not amazing but not meh either, just in the middle. But at least it doesn’t break me out and the white cast is minimal.

Spot treatment: I alternate two spot treatments. One is the Centella Blemish Cream from COSRX and the other one is Avene’s Cicalfate Repair Cream. Let me focus on the latter. This is my first time trying a skincare product from the French pharmacy and I must say it’s working amazingly so far! I use it more for hyperpigmentations, actually, but it’s great for acne too!

I had fun testing out these products and I’ll hopefully post another update on this soon! Also, if anyone has recommendations for a good spot treatment and sunscreen products, do let me know!

(More) Skincare Haul

Overview of the products

Let me be honest with you. I have been sucked into the black hole of Korean skincare world ever since I tried the Innisfree products. It worked very well for my skin and so I became more and more interested about other products. This haul is the result of me watching too much Youtube videos and browsing Amazon (I feel sad I couldn’t resist the temptation). As you may see on the preview picture below, I have tons of COSRX products that I wanted to try. I’ve heard great reviews for this particular brand and I thought my mom would also love to try some of these, so I gave them a shot. Several other products are from Tony Moly, April Skin and Son & Park.

Lots of free samples from The Face Shop

These serum samples were given to me as a freebie. It’s for anti-aging, so I guess I will just give those to my mom later on.

The favorite spot treatment for acne

These are the pimple treatment patches from COSRX. From what I’ve read, they could minimize the appearance of pimples that has already surfaced and suck all that yucky gunk out of it so you don’t need to dirty your hand to pop it or irritate your skin for doing so. Placing this stickers over your pimple also prevents you from touching it and further more irritating it.

Trying this out … because of the panda

The whole length of the stick

I personally am not a fan of Tony Moly products, but I love their packaging because they always create cute designs of it. This one in particular is the Panda’s Dream So Cool Eye Stick (again, the long name). It’s job is to moisturize the under eye area and give it a cooling sensation when applied. It comes with a stick form and it glides easily under the eye. It also has a protective cap to prevent it from drying off.

Another COSRX product to keep blackheads at bay

I’m actually new to this kind of chemical exfoliant product. Until recently I’ve been using the foaming scrub prescribed by the clinic in my country for exfoliation, but apparently, I read somewhere that it’s not effective and actually makes your skin even more irritated. Using chemical for exfoliation works better because it works under your skin, which is what this BHA Blackhead Power Liquid is supposed to do.

Useable as normal moisturizer or as a sleeping mask

Contents of the rice mask

I didn’t have any sleeping masks so I thought I’d give this one from COSRX a try. It’s quite popular as well among people. However, not everyone gave great reviews for this particular product. Some said that they experienced little breakouts after using. I’ve done a patch test for this and it doesn’t look like my skin is reacting to it. Hopefully it won’t break me out!

Jumping into the snail fest (although late)

See that cream stretching

I think I shared the same point of view with most people who heard about snail extract inside a skincare product for the first time: ‘Snail? Ew!‘. That suspicion soon turned out to be raved constantly, though. Snail extracts are proven to be able to minimize scarring and basically heal your skin as a whole. It also helps with wrinkles, so I thought I’d give this to my mom to try later on!

(Another late) controversial and cult product

Actually, I’ve read so many great reviews about this product and no one labeled this product as controversial. I called it ‘controversial’ because of the ingredient list inside this ‘Beauty Water’ toner. It contains a bad form alcohol which is denaturated alcohol (usually written as Alcohol Denat.) that can really dry and irritate your skin. (Note that there are good and bad types of alcohol.) But perhaps no one really made a big fuss about it because the alcohol was written at the bottom of the ingredients list, which shows that it’s the least used ingredient. I hope this does nothing bad to my skin, though.

A hair product from a skincare brand

I’ve never tried April Skin’s skin products, but this will be my first time trying out their hair product! I’ve been wanting to dye my hair ever since I graduated high school, but I was so scared that I’ll just end up destroying my already-weak hair if I do it, so I didn’t. This Turn-up Color Treatment is supposed to give temporary color to your hair with treatments instead of bleaching and damaging it. The color will fade after two weeks upon application (depends on how frequent you wash your hair) if you stop using the product, which makes this a great choice for someone who wants to try dye their hair without worrying it will go wrong.

That’s it for the whole haul! I hope you enjoyed reading them as I enjoyed writing about them. I will probably post a specific review for the hair treatment after I use it (I’m super excited and scared, to be honest) as well as a short review on the Beauty Water. I’m not sure if I should post about the COSRX products because there are tons of detailed reviews out there. So yeah,  hopefully these products will turn out great for my skin.  😉

Review: Innisfree Products

I purchased these products several months ago before leaving Japan to return to my country during the winter break. I got it through an Amazon seller based in Korea. At that time I was getting more sucked in into the skincare world (specifically Korea’s) and found out more about different brands. This road-shop brand particularly intrigued me and made me purchase several things that were very popular in the skincare world.

This review is just a short mini one because I believe more in-depth and detailed reviews are out there. This post is about how the product works and what I think about it. Different people may have different results with these products.

Loose setting powder for matte finish

Well, this is not a skincare product. But this loose setting powder has the functionality of controlling your skin sebum. It will give you a matte finish if applied on the top of your makeup, which is something that I aim for. I love the cute little puff it came with. So soft. This powder can maintain your skin from producing excess sebum for several hours. In my case, it held off for around 4~5 hours. After that my T-zone will start to get oily again and I’ll have to reapply it.

The cult favorite clay mask

I’m guessing most of the skincare lovers know this product since everyone loves it. Despite being a clay mask, it doesn’t get dry enough when you leave it on so it’s really easy to rinse off. This product is targeted to fix your pore concerns. I notice that it kinda minimizes the appearance of the pores on my nose (I have gigantic pores), so I guess I could understand why it was a cult favorite. I came to fall in love with this product after several uses. 😀

Hydrating green tea serum (contains alcohol)

I wasn’t originally going to purchase this product because it was quite on the pricier side. However, winter in Japan has somehow dried my skin and I watched several youtube videos that stated this was nice for hydrating your skin as well, so I gave it a try. I didn’t realize it contained alcohol in the first place, but thankfully my skin is OK with this product after several uses. It reacts a bit on the first few applications, making my skin a bit red, but afterward, it’s fine.

This serum absorbs really fast to your skin because of the alcohol, but it doesn’t dry my skin either. Applying moisturizer afterward works to keep my skin moisturized for the rest of the day.

A decent, non-drying primer

Another non-skincare product, but I came to love it because it works so much better than my old primer. My old one was Tony Moly’s Egg Pore Silky Smooth Balm (long name, I know), which dried my skin really bad to the point of making my cheek area look really flaky. Thankfully, this one from Innisfree does not accentuate my flaky skin. It keeps my makeup for a longer time as well (this depends on what you use) and makes my skin surface smooth.

Review: Japanese Skin Care

I decided to do a review for the skincare products that I bought several weeks ago on a whim. Overall, the products were good but there are certainly some that I wouldn’t repurchase unless I have no other alternatives.

DHC Cleansing Oil

This cleansing oil was actually really good on removing makeups, however, it dries my skin a little and has a bit of scent that I don’t really like. Moreover, it’s a bit pricey for the amount that I get. I don’t know about other cleansing oils, but I heard the one by Biore is pretty good and has a cheaper price compared to this product. While it has a good quality, I won’t be repurchasing this because of the price and because the effect it gives is the same with other products with a lower price.

Cure Natural Aqua Gel

Cleansing oil (left) and exfoliator (right)

I must say that this exfoliator is amazing. It peels off the dead skin so fast and makes your skin so smooth in an instant after application. If there is any reason for me to not repurchase this product, it would be the price. Spending ¥2500 for one bottle is quite too much even though the bottle would last for months because you don’t use this product on a daily basis. But for now, I will continue to use it until I find a cheaper and better substitute for this product (if any) in the future.

Update 20/5: My skin became super dry after several uses of this product and it started to peel like crazy. It’s like my skin is shedding. Not going to repurchase this. Will just use Lush instead.

Shiseido Perfect Whip

This is my very first foam cleanser that I have and I really love it since it makes my face feel so clean and refreshed after usage. I only need a small amount of it every time and add water to create the foam. I did state on my first haul post that creating the foam was a bit hard, but it turns out to be very easy! I just need to add more water to the soap and it creates more foam in an instant. Maybe I will repurchase this product, but I have another cleanser that I wanted to try, so maybe after I finished the other product then I will decide on this matter.

Update 20/5: I don’t if it’s my skin or it’s because of the weather, but recently my face has become so dry after washing using this cleanser. I feel like everything was stripped off and dry. It’s ‘too clean’ to the point my natural oils were stripped off.

Hadalabo Super Hyaluronic Acid Lotion

I think that this product has a reasonable pricing for the amount we get. You only need three to four drops of this moisturizer per application to keep your skin moist every day, which is amazing. It doesn’t have any strong smell or anything and it feels light on your skin as well. A good thing about this product is that it doesn’t give my skin any bad effects or breakouts. Same with the foam cleanser, I also had some other products that I wanted to test out and compare to this moisturizer before deciding to repurchase or not. But it’s definitely my favorite moisturizer for now.

Hatomugi Skin Lotion

I couldn’t find a clear picture of the product online so I decided to just use my previously taken picture for the haul post.

This product (left side of the picture) is so watery and takes a few seconds for your skin to absorb. It has a light scent and alcohol-free, which I like, but unfortunately is only able to moisturize my skin for several hours a day. I have a very dry skin for my legs so having to reapply this moisturizer every several hours might be troublesome. I won’t be repurchasing this and will resort to other body moisturizers in the future.

Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel

This might be my favorite sunscreen for now! It’s applicable for both face and your body so it’s very convenient to have. This product is also water resistant and has SPF 50+ as well as PA++++! The product has the consistency of a watery gel and is really easy to be absorbed by the skin. I will definitely purchase this product in the future. Love it to bits!

That is it for the product review for now. I will try more different products in the future and share it when I get the time to do so. I hope this is informational for others who are interested in these Japanese products.

Japanese Skin Care Haul

Coming to Japan, I’ve always been interested in their skincare and makeup products because of the packaging! I personally am not a makeup fan, however, I still love skin care because they’re important! I did several kinds of research on the most popular skin care products available and decided to give it a try!

Honestly, I’m not happy with the amount of money I spent because, holy, they’re so expensive (accumulated)! All the prices stated below includes tax.

Behold, the products that I bought

The items that I purchased include:

  • DHC Deep Cleansing Oil
  • Shiseido Perfect Whip
  • Cure Natural Aqua Gel
  • Hadalabo Super Hyaluronic Acid Lotion
  • Hatomugi Skin Lotion
  • Biore UV Aqua Rich
  • Missha Magic Cushion no.23 (This is a Korean product, but I bought them together with the others, so I won’t include a separate section for this.)
DHC Deep Cleansing Oil & Cure Natural Aqua Gel

Cleansing oil (left) and exfoliator (right)

The DHC Deep Cleansing Oil (¥1239) is so popular among the reviews so I decided to try it out myself. It indeed works really good and lifts makeup really quickly unlike other cleansers. The price of the product is a bit expensive in my opinion.

The Cure Natural Aqua Gel (¥2500) is an exfoliator which literally has magical powers to exfoliate your skin in seconds after application. I just tested this out yesterday and it really works well. I haven’t noticed any side effects, yet. This product is the most expensive among the things that I bought.

Shiseido Perfect Whip

The rumored foam cleanser

Despite having Shiseido as it’s brand, this foam cleanser is actually quite cheap for around ¥428. It does produce a lot of foam if you put in the effort lol. However, I’m not the type of person who likes to waste time to just create a foam so, in the end, I just use it directly after giving it a little bit of water. My face does feel a bit cleaner, I guess.

Hatomugi Skin Lotion & Hadalabo Super Hyaluronic Acid Lotion

These two are moisturizers

The Hatomugi Skin Lotion (¥378) is really cheap for the 500ml amount you can get. It has a watery consistency (hell, it’s literally water) and it doesn’t make your skin feel sticky. It does help my skin a bit from peeling off because of the cold weather. I don’t know how effective this product is yet, though.

This Hadalabo Hyaluronic moisturizer (heck the name’s too long) costs around ¥934 and works wonders. I only need three drops of it to cover my whole face and it really does make your skin moisturized for hours after application. A bit pricey but I guess it’s worth it.

Biore UV Aqua Rich

Lastly, the sunscreen

Sold for ¥838 and is said to have a super effective protection against the sun, moreover, it’s waterproof! You can apply it on both your face and body so it’s really convenient to have. It doesn’t cause a white cast on your skin as well.

That is all for the haul! Sorry to bore you with all the stuff, but I hope you enjoy reading it!
